NONOKO SATO
Program Director
Nonoko
joined SMART
full-time in June 2004 as the Education Coordinator. She grew up in
Chicago and graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, MN with a
B.A. in International Relations. She is fluent in Japanese with a near
fluency in French and she has traveled to 20 different countries,
including two study abroad programs in Paris. She has taught math,
language arts and history as well as art and theater to middle school
students. While her employment background is in administration in
various organizations (graphic design, computer ISP, French
consulting),
these experiences helped her gain valuable skills and expertise that
she happily translated to a field she is more passionate about -
because her
true calling is to work with underserved youth in an urban setting, as
she was once one herself. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, the
performing arts, eating good food, learning a new language and meeting
interesting new people (including our students and volunteers). She
values quality education, diversity, and unique experiences and
opportunities for young students.
