ALVARO D. MARQUEZ
Program / Alumni Coordinator
Alvaro joined our team in fall of 2006. He
is originally from Salinas, California and graduated from Brown
University in Providence, Rhode Island with a degree in Modern American
History, focusing on grass-roots community movements. He has spent the
past three years working in London, UK and Mallorca, Spain, but is
relocating to San Francisco to put his ideals to use. He is fluent in
Spanish and is passionate about working with children who are motivated
but who, much like him as a child, do not have the means to pursue a
competitive education. His experiences range from working in summer
camps and outdoor education groups, to working with children of recent
immigrants. An avid enthusiast of the arts and literature, Alvaro hopes
to convey a sense of self-esteem and confidence in children who may
otherwise feel restricted.
