Aidé
joined the SMART team in September of 2011. As the first person in her family to
go to college, she developed a strong passion for education, and believes that everyone
has the right to a top-notch education, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
After graduating, she became a Teach For America corps member, and taught high
school Spanish and College Readiness in south Los Angeles, where she worked
hard to create a curriculum that helped fortify and develop students’ literacy
and analytical skills. In the classroom, Aidé saw firsthand that the education system
needed more support, and began to look into how non-profit organizations can
improve and aid in serving all of our youth. She strives to be an advocate for educational
equity, and seeks to empower young people so they, too, can be agents of
change.
In her free time, Aidé loves to visit museums, hiking, biking, and
swimming. She also has an inexplicable affinity for photobooth pictures,
singing karaoke, and watching television (Parks and Rec!). Aidé graduated from
UC Berkeley with a BA in English and Latin American Studies, and hopes to
continue with her education.

“Independent schools are
constantly
looking to attract
an
applicant pool that is
diverse
in terms of
geographic,
socio-economic,
and
racial differences, yet
they
struggle to find qualified
applicants
who meet the
rigorous
entrance
requirements.
Recently,
SMART
has emerged as an
outstanding
resource for
private
schools in this regard.”
